It was a new decade, and the beginning of the end of the muscle car era. Federal safety and environmental regulations and the imminent oil crisis would result in a downsizing of the powerplants that powered the great muscle cars, and the high cost of insuring these awesome machines further hastened their demise. But, in 1970, automobile manufacturers could still meet the demand for the high-performance models that defined the era. In the 1970 model-year, Plymouth's Intermediate Series alone featured 16 distinct models from the work-a-day Belvedere to the spunky Road Runner to the high performance GTX. All 16 models featured redesigned grilles, hoods, rear panels and fenders. The GTX - the top model in the series - also boasted an awesome package of extras. These included a heavy-duty Torqueflight transmission. deLuxe bucket seats, reflective body side tape accent and gleaming exhaust trumpets. But what really set the GTX apart was its 440 "Super Commando" V-8 engine that produced a muscle-flexing 375 horsepower. A dual, four-barrel "Street Hemi" engine was an option for the GTX. Its performance lived up to its monster reputation, providing an extraordinary 425 horsepower. Now, the 1970 Plymouth GTX is re-created in a dramatic die-cast replica. Precision-engineered in 1:43 scale and authentically detailed, the 1970 Plymouth GTX is produced by - and available exclusively from - Matchbox Collectibles, the greatest name in die-cast.
